Psychosis & Schizophrenia

People experiencing psychosis lose sense of reality. They often see or hear things that are not real, or suspect unfounded malicious intent from others. This can lead to feelings of fear and being withdrawn. Schizophrenia is a chronic psychotic disorder. There is no cure for schizophrenia, but appropriate treatment can help manage and control symptoms. This helps with the ability to work, retain healthy relationships and sustain a more fulfilling life.

ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders

ADHD can make it challenging to manage daily life, particularly tasks that involve planning, organisation and focus. Symptoms include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. People with Autism find difficultly with social interaction and communication, understanding social cues, and engaging in conversation or play with others. ADHD and Autism are both neurodevelopmental disorders. Symptoms can be managed leading to successful lives with proper treatment and support.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD is ongoing stress after a traumatic event or series of events. It is common to experience vivid memories, flashbacks or nightmares and avoid situations or people that trigger re-experiencing the traumatic event. This can have a significant impact on aspects of your day-to-day life, whether personal, family, social or work. Appropriate treatment and support will help you work through the emotions and memories associated with the trauma.

Depression & Anxiety

Depression and anxiety are experienced by many people. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and anxiety is among the most common mental health conditions. Occasionally feeling sad or anxious is a normal part of life. When these feelings become persistent, overwhelming and interfere with daily functioning, they may indicate the need for assessment and treatment. Depression and anxiety disorders are both treatable by seeking psychiatric and/or psychological help depending on severity.

Dissociative Disorders

Dissociative disorders can involve a variety of physical symptoms without any identifiable physical cause. These physical symptoms can be a linked to an underlying dissociative disorder. A person feels disconnection or disruption in the normal functioning of consciousness, memory, identity, or perception of the environment. Appropriate treatment can help you manage and alleviate both the physical symptoms and related psychological distress.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders

Doing things that feel excessive or irrational or experiencing worrying thoughts that come out of nowhere and leave one feeling frightened or anxious, are common in OCD. These persistent thoughts and behaviors can be debilitating. Fortunately, OCD is a treatable condition through a range of medications and psychological interventions.

Stress

Stress is a physical, mental or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension. Some degree of stress is normal however continuous stress without relief can result in distress and lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, loss of appetite, increased blood pressure, chest pain and problems sleeping. Stress can also influence many physical health conditions including heart disease, blood pressure and irritable bowel syndrome.

Burnt-out? Fatigued or overwhelmed? Life can be stressful. We get it. Stress can be managed with CBT, relaxation and mindfulness therapy.

Phobias

A phobia is an intense and persistent fear of an object or situation that in reality poses little or no danger. Fear becomes a phobia when it is so severe that it causes significant anxiety and interferes with a persons’ normal life. Phobias are broadly classified into three types: Specific (related to an animal, person, situation or activity- such as spiders or heights); Social Phobia or social anxiety disorder (the fear of social situations); and Agoraphobia (fear of being in public places). Phobias can be treated effectively by CBT.

Trauma

Trauma is an emotional response after a terrible event which usually involves exposure to death, serious injury or sexual violence. Some people can have difficulty moving on with their lives after a traumatic event and the experience of trauma may contribute to the development of a mental illness such as depression and anxiety, alcohol and substance use disorders, self-harm and suicide-related disorders and psychosis.
