Work Experience
Dr Barton has worked in the mental health space for over 10 years – initially in the public sector, and more recently in private practice. He is a warm and caring clinician who provides evidence-based mental healthcare using a holistic and collaborative approach. Dr Barton has a wide range of clinical interests including:
- Anxiety disorders
- Mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder)
- Psychotic disorders
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Eating disorders (including creation and review of Eating Disorder Treatment Plans)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Youth mental health (ages 16-25)
- Working with people from CALD and LGBTQIA+ communities

Qualifications
Dr Barton is a general adult psychiatrist who trained in Sydney. He holds degrees in medicine and mechatronic engineering, and a PhD in functional brain imaging from The University of Sydney.
Research Interests
Away from the clinic Dr Barton is involved in research and environmental advocacy. He is currently a part-time research fellow at The Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research Institute where he investigates the impact of extreme heat on mental health. Dr Barton is also an active member of Doctors for the Environment Australia through which he is involved in advocating for strong action on climate change to improve physical and mental health.
